This page sets out practical habits for keeping gambling under control and explains what this site can and cannot do for someone who wants to cut back or stop.
This site cannot switch on any control
Controls such as deposit caps, loss caps, reality checks, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion belong to an operator account. This build has no account, no form and no server-side application, so nothing published here can switch one on, check one or enforce one. If you want any of those controls, you set them up inside your own account at the destination.
Nobody's age is verified on this site, and no gambling takes place here. Any check of that kind happens at the destination. The eighteen-and-over restriction is repeated throughout this build, including on the front page.
Nothing here is targeted at you
No advertising or behavioural profiling network is present in these pages. Nothing on this site is aimed at a reader because of risky behaviour, and nothing here follows you from page to page to push you back.
Six independent organisations are linked on every page
Every page, this one included, carries links to BeGambleAware, Gamble Aware, Gambling Therapy, G GamCare Gambling Support: Starts Here, GAM STOP and NCPG. Each is an independent source of help.
These are the only non-commercial outbound links on the site. Unlike the operator links, they carry no sponsored marking. They are set to nofollow, and they open in a separate tab on the organisations' own websites. This site receives nothing when you follow them.
A fixed budget keeps the game in proportion
Decide the amount before you start, and treat it as already spent. Setting the number in advance stops in-the-moment excitement from raising it. Never chase a loss. Trying to win it back usually means staking more, which deepens the hole you are trying to escape.
Keep gambling out of borrowed money. A loss of spare cash ends when the session does, but borrowed money creates repayments that outlast it.
Breaks and other people help you notice change
Take regular breaks. Stepping away interrupts the momentum of play and gives you room to decide clearly whether to continue.
Involve someone you trust early, as soon as gambling stops feeling like entertainment. Another person can often spot changes in time or spending before you do.
